On Monday and Tuesday, the female footballers of Northcross Intermediate were competing at the North Harbour Champs. Monday saw the Y7’s take to the field for the first time in this tournament format. With a mix of both club players and newbies the girls put in a excellent showing. During pool play they had a couple of comprehensive 3-0 victories before unfortunately, losing a tense semi-final in which NX received no help from lady-luck.
On Tuesday it was the turn of the Y8’s. The girls had a truly superb day! They comfortably and professionally went about the early rounds of the tournament with a series of 3 and 4 nil victories during which included some fantastic team goals. The girls reached the final of the tournament thanks to a composed volley by Brooke James, in the semi-final against Belmont. The final was a very even contest, where only a piece of excellent individual skill and then the poor fortune of a width of a crossbar, resulted in an outstanding 2nd place finish for the girls. A superb two days where NX’s talent was once again displayed in all its glory!
