2017 saw Northcross send a touch team to the National Bluelight Touch Tournament in Taupo last weekend to defend its title. The competition weekend is run by Bluelight Police and this year saw five schools entered from various places across the North Island, including Whakatane, Te Puke, Hamilton and Manurewa. In pool play the team had big wins over Crenshaw, Matata 2 and Manurewa. A draw with Whakatane was enough to put Northcross through to the Final against Matata 1. Northcross shot out to a 2-0 lead very quickly before things tightened up! Northcross eventually ground out a very hard fought 2-1 victory to retain its title! Post the games we had some fun at AC Baths, practiced our golf shots at the Lake Taupo Golf Hole In One Challenge before finishing off the night going to the movies. The team was, Karla Stevenson, Kristy Fleming, Katrina Hall, Kurtis Macdonald, Brayden Bayer and Matthew Lindsay. A massive thanks to Chris who runs the Lodge and Warren from Bluelight who provided us with such an awesome opportunity and experience. Well done to the players for your amazing efforts and to Miss Hale for all your help and support!
