On Wednesday night, hundreds of students gathered at Northcross Intermediate to compete in Mathex, a high speed test of mathematical problem solving ability. The challenge? To solve 20 questions in 30 minutes and to get more correct answers than any other team. In the year seven challenge, Room 55, team two triumphed with an amazing 95 points out of 100. Well done to Albert Boy, Chris Hewitt, Kevin Chang and Jesse Wanghan. Second place was tightly contested with teams four and five from Room 55 duking it out in a tie breaker for second place. Team five placed second with Team four in third. An outstanding result!
The year 8 challenge was even tighter with Room 54, team 4 and Room 51, team 1 requiring a tie-breaker for first place as both finished on 95 points. The Room 54 f Max Bojovic, Rihoko Suzuki, Robert an and Ashton Stone beat Room 51 by mere seconds with Room 54, team one coming in a close third.
Congratulations to all students who participated – we were particularly impressed with the perseverance when the questions got tough! Thanks also to all the parents and families who came out to cheer on and celebrate with their children.
