The Kapa haka group have performed on many occasions so far this year, but no performance was as exciting for the group as the performance in our own PAC as part of Maori language week. The day started at 4am for Kapa haka teacher Mark Jensen as he prepared the hangi that would feed all the whanau and friends after the performance. Not only was it very cold that early in the morning, but there was heavy wind and rain, but the stones got hot, and the kai was cooked to perfection. Many whanau arrived to see the Kapa haka perform, enjoy the kai and to help raise over $3000 from Mr Jensen’s art auction – all the proceeds going towards the Woman’s Refuge. A massive thanks to all our wonderful community, to the teachers that helped out on the night, praise for our amazing Kapa haka group for all their support and enthusiasm and a very special ng mihi nui to Mark Jensen for his passion and unwavering commitment to the Northcross Kapa haka programme.
