Please note: While we will accept registrations from all players, Harbour Basketball may not be able to fit all teams into the competition so some players may miss out. If this is the case, then the registration deposit will be refunded.

Trials

All those who register will be placed in a team.

Trials will take place within the week starting Tuesday 30th January. An email will be sent out prior to this week to inform you of your child’s specific trial time. All players will have a second trial and will be notified, by email, after their first trial. We understand that these trials will take place when some families are still away on holiday – if this pertains to you, please contact basketball@northcross.school.nz  and another trial time will be organised the following week.

All trials will be held in the school gym. Students are to wear their PE gear and remember their drink bottle. Players will not be able to trial in bare feet. If your child is a beginner, they do not need to attend trials, they will be placed in a beginner team. However, if they wish to be considered for a higher team, they can attend the trial. Please check your email daily for notification of second trial time.

Training

Please note – Training days and times may change between semester 1 and 2. The day and time for each student will be dependant on which team they are placed in.

Training days: Either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday

Time: After school

Location: The NX Gym

Specific days and times will be dependent on which team each student is placed in.

Selection process

We go through a very thorough selection process to finalise our teams and players will be placed in a team that our selectors have determined best suits their ability and experience. While inevitably there will be some movement of players, both up and down teams, it is important to remember that this movement can be a result of the following factors:

  • New players who didn’t play last year can also create movement for other players, especially if they are placed in a higher team, resulting in other players moving down to a lower team.
  • Individual development and growth over the summer months. If individual players have put in an extra effort and completed additional training over the holiday, this can definitely show during trials, resulting in higher performance on the court and some movement between teams.

We understand that some students will have questions regarding the trial process and eventually the team selection – if your child does, please ask them to see Anna in the sports office.

As per our Sports Selection Policy, no correspondence regarding team selection will be entered into. If you wish to view it, please download the document at the bottom of this page.

If you have any basketball queries, please email basketball@northcross.school.nz

Coaches, managers & umpires

Each Basketball team will need a coach and manager. If we cannot get enough coaches we will have to reduce the number of teams and unfortunately some children may miss out on playing. If you are interested in being a coach or manager for Basketball, please indicate this on registration.

All coaches and managers are required to be police vetted by Northcross. If you are keen to take on one of these roles and have not yet been police vetted by our school, please email us and we will send you through the relevant forms to fill out.
