Studying at Northcross

Why Choose Northcross

For years, Northcross Intermediate has welcomed international students, enriching our campus with a mix of cultural perspectives. These students don’t just gain a high-quality education; they become part of a global community that values diversity and mutual growth.

Our school focuses exclusively on the crucial 11-13 age group, catering to over a thousand students in these intermediate years. Our teaching philosophy is geared towards dynamic, student-centred learning, designed to foster personal growth and academic development.

Located in a park-like setting on Auckland's North Shore, Northcross overlooks Rangitoto Island and the Hauraki Gulf. You'll find us a mere 20-minute drive north of downtown Auckland, close to a variety of community centres and amenities.

Our Curriculum

At Northcross, your child will be placed into mainstream classrooms and will follow the New Zealand Curriculum. Core subjects include English, The Arts, Health and Physical Education, Mathematics and Statistics, Science, Social Sciences, and Technology. Mid-year and end-of-year reports help you track your child’s progress within these curriculum levels. If your child is enrolled in the ELIP (English Language Intensive Programme) they’ll receive an additional year-end report that evaluates their English fluency and comprehension.

The Year 7 curriculum is specifically designed to engage students in practical experiences across a range of specialist subjects, including Visual Art, Biotechnology, Drama, Materials, Music, Science, Robotics/Coding, and Food. The goal here is to ignite curiosity and develop problem-solving skills through these diverse disciplines. By Year 8, students have the opportunity to self-select four of these specialist subjects to explore in greater depth, tailoring their educational experience to their interests.
