NX sent three teams to the NH Tag Zone Day held at Freyberg Park, Browns Bay. With Tag becoming such a popular sport, selection of these teams was exceptionally difficult this year with many of our students involved in representative Tag teams at Oceania Tag Nationals. Both our Boys and Girls Teams went through Pool Play unbeaten and faced tough opposition in the Semi Finals.
The Boys played Whangaparaoa in their Semi, against a lot of their mates from the coast, and put on a fine display of skill and stoic defence to win comfortably 7-4. Murray’s Bay were our finals opponents and they came out fired up and shot out to a commanding lead and never let up. We just couldn’t get into the game and credit must go to Murray’s Bay for their suffocating defence.
Our girls played Carmel in the Semi Final and won that comfortably to move forward and also meet Murray’s Bay in the Final. This game eventually went to a drop off as regular time ended up with the score being 0-0. Both teams were brilliant on defence and finding holes on attack proved very difficult. Our girls unfortunately went down 0-1, but put up a mighty fight.
Our girls B Team had a fun day and had a few wins and losses, but the skill level and strategy improved with each game. Massive thank you to Sarah Hogan for looking after our Girls Team 1 on the day; the girls really enjoyed working with you!
